Scientific name: Varanus Acanthurus (Red Ackie)
Distribution: Australia. Western Australia. Habitat: Great Sandy dessert area. Utilizes hollows, burrows, dead trees, rock outcrops. Brief description: Up to 70 cm total length. Red Ackies are by far one of the easiest and most desirable of the smaller monitors. Pairs or trios can be set up in a large custom built cage with rocks, various hides, cork flats and tubes. A water and food dish should be present. Good UVB and a hot spot of 110F is a must. Diet must be varied with good supplementation. Females will lay 2-4 clutches in a season. |
